Welcome to BreakDown STL! Whether you are checking us out for the first time, or are a long standing supporter, I am excited that you are interested in learning more about who we are, what we do, and why we do it.

I would like to start by telling you that I was one of those teens who desperately needed to hear the BreakDown message. In an effort to fill a void in my life, I engaged in a lot of risky behavior with the hopes that I would gain a certain status, or that it would bring me happiness. Ironically, however, it did just the opposite. Starting from a young age I did my best to try to navigate through some tough situations, only to find myself in a downward spiral. It wasn't until I hit rock bottom that my life began to turn around.

Thankfully, God had a different plan for my life. I found myself asking, "How would my life have turned out if I was better educated on those issues, or if even one person had believed in me?" As a result, my passion for teens began! I am passionate about educating teens and sharing truth in the hopes that they will see the pitfalls of life coming and choose to avoid them, rather than to blindly fall into them. I am passionate about meeting teens where they are, but not leaving them there. I long to see a generation of leaders and world changers rise up to make a significant impact in this world. I firmly believe that our society has formed the habit of placing extremely low expectations on teens, and sadly many of them are settling with those expectations. In my 25+ years of working with teens in various capacities, I have seen proven time and time again that when I hold high expectations and believe in a student, he or she will strive to meet those expectations. I also believe that we all make mistakes, and it's what we learn from them that counts. Teens, or adults for that matter, shouldn't be defined by their past mistakes. It's never too late to change and use your past for good! Because of this, I was determined to establish a program in my hometown that would truly make a difference. BreakDown STL was then born.

It was laid on my heart from the beginning to bring our program(s) at no cost to the school, organization or church. We rely on the generous donations from individuals and corporations that have a heart for teens and believe in our message. Donors can be reassured that all funds are used toward our programs to reach teens right here in our community. Due to the generosity of our donors and loyal support from our passionate volunteers, BreakDown STL has grown exponentially.

Our approach is unconventional, and it works! We have thousands of testimonials from students who have indicated that they have made life changes and are experiencing freedom from the consequences of tough issues such as sex, alcohol, drugs, bullying, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. If you are a teen that is hurting or feels hopeless, please know there is hope! If you are here because you have a heart to help, we would love to have you partner with us in pushing back darkness and making a difference in the lives of young people.
